About Levántate por Cuba
Levántate por Cuba was begun in 2024 in Chicago by several longtime Cuban Solidarity activists to build Unity in Action with all peoples and nations of the world and within the US fighting for liberation y self determination and to build a grassroots movement with those in the US most directly affected by the 2 way genocidal blockade against both Cuba and the People’s of the US.
In November we will be taking our 3rd brigade to Santiago de Cuba where we work with both rural and urban peoples and organizations to develop projects and programs of mutual benefit.

Our work is rooted in the belief that the relationship between the United States and Cuba should be based on mutual respect, cooperation, friendship, and peaceful coexistence. We advocate for an end to the U.S. economic blockade and other punitive policies toward Cuba, including restrictions that limit travel, trade, family connections, cultural exchange, and cooperation between our countries. We also support the removal of Cuba from the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list and the normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba.
As a member organization of the National Network on Cuba, Levantate Por Cuba works alongside organizations, activists, and communities across the United States who share our commitment to ending the policies of economic and political hostility toward Cuba. From our roots in Chicago, we contribute to a broader national and international movement for friendship, solidarity, sovereignty, and the full normalization of U.S.-Cuba relations.
We are also inspired by Cuba's longstanding tradition of internationalism and opposition to imperialism. Cuba has a history of standing in solidarity with peoples and nations confronting foreign domination, occupation, war, economic coercion, and other forms of external pressure. From Palestine and Venezuela to Liberia and Sierra Leone, Cuba's internationalist example reflects the principle that every nation and people has the right to self-determination, sovereignty, peace, and dignity.
Cuba's tradition of international solidarity—through medical cooperation, education, disaster assistance, and other forms of support—has extended far beyond its own borders. Levantate Por Cuba seeks to educate our community about this history and to connect the struggle for U.S.-Cuba normalization with a broader commitment to international solidarity and the rights of peoples everywhere.
From Chicago to communities across the United States and beyond, Levantate Por Cuba is committed to building bridges between peoples rather than walls between nations. We stand for friendship between Cuba and the United States, an end to the economic blockade, respect for Cuba's sovereignty, and solidarity with peoples around the world striving for justice, independence, peace, and self-determination.
